International Conference "Art and Science in Portuguese Renaissance"


On March 10th, Vasco Medeiros, researcher at ARTIS-IHA/FLUL, will participate on the International Conference "Art and Science in Portuguese Renaissance | Homage to helena Avelar", with the communication: "Ars Cartographica - Collaboration between Portuguese Painters and Cartographers in the 15th and 16th centuries".

This conference is organized by the Interuniversity Centre for the History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT), based at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

BALTAZAR in conference
On Friday, March 4th, at 5:30 pm, in the Auditorium of the MNAA-Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, will be presented the "Still Life with birds, fish, plate with flowers and fruits and a pair of pigeons", painted by Baltazar Gomes Figueira (1604-1674), the father of Josefa de Óbidos, recently acquired by the Museum.
 
On the occasion, a conference will take place, by the art historians:
 
"The artistic modernity of Baltazar Gomes Figueira (1664-1674), «Celebrated Painter» and father of Josefa de Óbidos"

"Still life and quiet life in the Seville painting of the first Naturalism"

International Congress dedicated to "Bernardo Ferrão and the decorative arts in the East and in the World"

Leonor Liz Amaral, researcher at ARTIS-IHA, will participate in the International Congress dedicated to "Bernardo Ferrão and the decorative arts in the East and in the World", which will take place in Porto, between 24 and 26 March 2022.
 
The theme of her communication is: "Os marfins luso-africanos do antigo reino de Benim: relações interculturais e artísticas" ("The Portuguese-African ivories of the ancient kingdom of Benin: intercultural and artistic relations")
